Robbie S., Still Life Photographer

Still Life Photography

Robbie S.

One light, moved slowly.

Robbie S. is a still life and product photographer with a sculptor's eye for light. Most at home in the studio, building an image one deliberate decision at a time — usually with a single source, and a great deal of black card.

Robbie assisted in catalogue studios for years before going alone, and learned there how to make forty identical pictures before lunch. The personal work is the reverse: one picture, however long it takes.

Selected Work
The Botanist — a violet glass dropper bottle beside its aubergine box

The Botanist — Product Photography, 2024

Bottle & Box

Product photography for a skincare launch: violet glass and an aubergine box on wet black stone, lit with the same two gels as the campaign portraits so that pack and face belong to one world.

Hollowell — still life of a black cast-iron skillet on black slate

Hollowell — Still Life Photography, 2025

Black on Black

The full range of a cast-iron foundry, photographed black iron on black slate from a single source — so the product imagery and the brand film could sit side by side.

The Cabinet — a single green and copper jewel beetle on white

The Cabinet — Specimen Photography, 2026

Three Thousand Specimens

Five weeks in a museum basement photographing three thousand specimens, each one focus-stacked so that it holds up at any magnification — down to the scales on a wing.

Ten Objects for a Kitchen — a still life of a copper saucepan, a marble mortar and pestle and a kitchen knife arranged on a block of rough stone

Independent Work — Magazine Commission, 2025

Ten Objects for a Kitchen

A still life portfolio for a food magazine's design issue: ten kitchen objects, each photographed like sculpture. Ran across fourteen pages.

Within the Collective

Robbie typically leads product, packaging and object photography, and any project where a thing has to be seen more clearly than the eye sees it. Robbie works with V. and the collective's art directors on the look before a light is switched on, and alongside its portrait and location photographers when a campaign needs both a face and an object.

All project enquiries are handled by Creative Director V. through Influence Design Studio.
